About UsAs a third generation dog trainer, Adrienne Caldwell's abilities in understanding and communicating with dogs were cultivated at an early age. Born and raised in a multiple dog household her intuitive approach to working with dogs has been compared in style to that of Turid Rugas, author of "On Talking Terms with Dogs". After studying psychology for four years at Queens College and Columbia University (where she held an Internship and Research Assistant position at Long Island Jewish Medical Center) she recieved her BFA from the School of Visual Arts where she wrote and directed a documentary short entitled "Raised by a Dog in New York City." Adrienne has been working privately with pet dogs and their owners since 1990. She has been certified as a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator for the American Kennel Club since 2004. In addition to private dog training Adrienne taught group classes including puppy, basic, Canine Good Citizen and Tricks at 10 different Petco locations in New York (where she taught classes for over 6 years). Commited to raising the bar of excellence in professional dog training certification, Adrienne -- along with like minded colleagues -- is pursuing establishment of the Holistic Dog Training Certification Counsel (HDTCC). She has an "ask not what your dog can do for you, but what you can do for your dog" canine centered approach to dog training and believes you can be sensitive and compassionate without sacrificing effectiveness in terms of a client's dog training needs. Adrienne is also very active in the rescue community. Another project, in addition to the Holistic Dog Training Certification Counsel, is a not for profit organization dedicated to promoting the adoption of difficult to place breeds directly from New York City's municipal shelter system. Her rescue work has also extended to the rescue and rehabilitation of exotic birds (Parrots, Macaws and Cockatoos) and cats through her volunteer work at various animal sanctuaries in the New York area. Her holistic approach is evident in her rehabilitation work with her current pack of three Bull Terrier mixes -- Lewis, Oona and Max rescued from various shelters throughout the tri-state area. http://www.animalalliancenyc.org/newsletter/04-11/success.htm
