Maximillian Mortimer Caldwell
"Maximillian Mortimer Caldwell"

Meet Max. Max was found as a puppy walking the streets of Smithtown, LI. He was adopted by a family with two little girls who he loved very much. He slept with them in their beds every night. The family, however, was unable to keep him and he was returned to the shelter.

Poor innocent Max didn't understand why he was taken away from his little girls and moved from a warm bed to a cage in the shelter. He was heartbroken, refused to eat and eventually was nothing but skin and bones. (See his before and after photos.) In danger of humane euthanasia he was taken in by the Rescue and Rehabilitation Center as a foster.

It was a rough go at first as Max had weight loss and nervous self mutilation behaviors to overcome. He was immediately started on a training program designed to distract him from his anxiety and increase his self confidence and his likelyhood of getting adopted by a loving family.

Some very bad people tried to adopt Max including two who had criminal backgrounds and were previously arrested for animal cruelty. One let all 15 of his dogs starve to death and another tortured a dog by pouring toxic chemicals on him.

Wanting to protect him from harm and ensure his happiness for the rest of his life Max was kept as a permanent member of Adrienne's pack. He now lives happily ever after with his brother Lewis and sister Oona. His favorite trick to perform is to open the door to his crate, go inside, and close the door behind him. More photos of Max with his pack are coming soon!

In honor of Max adopt a dog from Smithtown Animal Shelter today!
